To earn a pardon from the Governor, Curry/Jones and Heyes/Smith must stay out of trouble and live honest lives in a small western town for an unspecified amount of time. However, they constantly find themselves being pursued by bounty hunters and law enforcement officers looking to finally bring them to justice. With Heyes/Smith's silver tongue and Curry/Jones's quick draw (along with occasional assistance from friends on both sides of the law), they manage to evade capture time and time again.

Starring Ben Murphy and Pete Duel as the lovable rogues, the series boasts a talented recurring cast including Burl Ives as Big Mac McCreedy and Walter Brennan as Silky O' Sullivan. A host of guest stars like Pernell Roberts, Susan Oliver, and Alan Hale, Jr., make appearances throughout the show's run.

Roger Davis stepped into the role of Hannibal Heyes following the tragic death of Pete Duel during the show's second season. The series even includes a 90-minute pilot episode, featuring James Drury, John Russell, and Susan St. James in guest roles.
